Short answer

Chipped or cracked glass takes a Wolf induction or electric cooktop out of use: Wolf's guide says not to run it with broken glass, whichever zone the damage is near. Switch it off at the breaker. How the glass gets hurt

A chip at the edge marks where a pan or lid came down at an angle; a crack across a zone can follow a heavy knock or cookware used the wrong way. Wolf’s current guide warns that a griddle, roaster or fish poacher run across two zones without the bridge switched on could crack the glass, and the older induction guide says never to stand a trivet, wok ring or other metal stand directly on it. Whatever the cause, Wolf’s instruction does not change. A top whose glass is broken or badly pitted is not run, and that includes the zones well away from the damage.

How the top sits in the counter

New glass means lifting the top out of its cutout, and the installation decides how much work that is. A standard Wolf top rests on the counter on a foam strip and is held from below by brackets. A flush top sits level with the counter on a routed ledge or on cleats, a method Wolf reserves for granite, stone or solid surface, and it is sealed in place. Before you book

Stop using the whole top, not just the damaged zone, and switch the cooktop off at its breaker so nobody starts a zone out of habit.

Once the glass is cool, photograph the damage from above with a coin beside it, and note whether it reaches an edge or crosses a zone.

Keep water, cleaner and scrapers away from the crack, and do not tape over it or try to fill it.
