Double Oven: Upper Fine, Lower Dead

Short answer

When the upper cavity of a Wolf double oven heats and the lower one stays cold, first rule out the settings that keep an oven idle on purpose: a clean cycle that holds the second oven back on some models, Delayed Start, or Sabbath. Upper cavity working, lower cold

A double oven is two ovens sharing one supply and one run of cabinetry. If the upper cavity bakes normally, power is reaching the appliance, and the search narrows to the lower cavity: its bake and broil elements, the sensor that reports its temperature to the control, and the relay that switches its heat. Which modes fail matters. No heat on Bake but heat on Broil points at the bake side, its element or the relay feeding it; nothing on any mode points further back, at the control.

When the circuit was sized for one

A remodel that swaps a single wall oven for a double in the same cabinet run can leave the new pair on the old circuit. The load roughly doubles: Wolf’s dual-fuel figures run from 5.2 kW for one oven to 10.2 kW for two. That alone rarely explains one dead cavity, but a double on an undersized circuit is worth finding while the oven is open, so we read the rating plate against the breaker before testing any part. An electrician resizes the circuit if it falls short.

Before you book

Check whether the upper oven is in Clean or has only just finished. Wolf's two-oven dual-fuel ranges keep the other oven out of use during Clean; a wall double's guide says how yours behaves.

Look for a Delayed Start time or a Sabbath symbol on the lower oven's side of the control. A delayed oven sits idle until its start time comes round.

Run the lower oven for five minutes on Bake, then five on Broil, and note which, if either, warms it.

Confirm the breaker feeding the ovens is fully on rather than resting midway.

Usually, yes, if the upper oven heats normally and nothing smells hot, because each cavity heats on its own. Switch the pair off at the breaker if you notice a burning smell, scorching or a tripped breaker.
