Short answer

The hot-surface light on a Wolf induction or electric cooktop is meant to stay lit after switch-off until the glass has cooled; on older CT induction tops it comes on above 150°F. What the light is for

The hot-surface light is a burn warning, and it is meant to outlast the cooking. Wolf’s current guide for the CI and CE tops says only that it may stay lit after the cooktop is off. The older CT induction guide is more exact: it lights when any zone’s surface climbs past 150°F (65°C) and stays lit until the entire top is back down to a safe temperature. Induction glass picks up warmth from the pan sitting on it; on a radiant top the element heats the glass itself, so it tends to hold heat longer. A light that lingers after a big cook is doing its job.

When it is not leftover heat

A light still on the next morning, with nothing cooked overnight, is not reading real heat. That points at whatever senses the surface temperature, or at the control that drives the light.

One installation detail is worth raising first. Wolf’s drawings allow a built-in oven directly beneath the cooktop, and a Talus or Highlands kitchen may have exactly that stack. If the light lingers only on days that oven has run, tell us, so the reading is judged with that heat in mind.

Before you book

After a long or hot cook, leave the top alone and look again later in the evening; glass under a heavy pan gives its heat back slowly.

Do not test the glass with your hand. If the light is still on next morning and nothing has been cooked since, write that down.

Note whether a wall oven directly below the cooktop was used that day, and whether the light lingers only on those days.

The light is always on. Is that dangerous?

The light is not the hazard. The trouble is that a warning which never goes out stops being believed, and one day the glass really will be hot. What if the light does not come on after cooking?

That is the more urgent version. Wolf warns that glass over and beside a zone in use can get hot enough to burn, and a missing light leaves nothing to stop a hand. Treat the surface as hot regardless, keep children away from it, and book a visit rather than waiting for it to sort itself out.
